Hiking

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area straddles a stretch of the Delaware River on the New Jersey and Pennsylvania border. It encompasses forested mountains, grassy beaches and the Delaware Water Gap, which slices through the Kittatinny Ridge. Miles of trails include a section of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. Dingmans Creek Trail leads through a hemlock ravine to towering Dingmans Falls.

Tannersville Cranberry Bog Preserve

The Tannersville Cranberry Bog or Cranberry Swamp is a sphagnum bog on the Cranberry Creek in Tannersville, Pennsylvania. It is the southernmost boreal bog east of the Mississippi River, containing many black spruce and tamarack trees at the southern limit of their ranges.

Glen Run Nature Preserve

Glen Run Nature Preserve was acquired in 2015 and offers 4 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The nearly 200-acre preserve is located just south of Stroudsburg and the view from Godfrey Ridge provides an excellent view of the borough below. The ridge also marks a watershed divide: with the northern portion of the preserve located in the McMichael Creek watershed and the southern in the Cherry Creek watershed.

Barley Creek Brewery Company

Barley Creek Brewing Company, the Pocono Mountains’ original brewpub, was established in 1995 with a traditional Pennsylvania timber-frame barn raising. They have a Brewtique and Beer-Bear in their “living room,” a full canoe on top of their mug rack, a mailbox made out of a beer keg (the “Ale Box”), and an official wiffleball stadium.
